Songs of Love

The series, Songs of Love, is composed of nine books, forming an epic sequence in nine parts, each a chapter of the mysterious journey of love, lover, and beloved.  Although the books are different in form and poetic style, they offer a metamorphosis of love, leading from innocent, passionate impulse to becoming and being. These are followed with awakening and transformation by fire, enchantment, sound, and initiation, ending at the beginning — oneness and the mystery of love.

Each book contains the poetry of Nicholas Michael Morrow and the art of Willow Arlenea. The following is a synopsis of the Songs of Love and each of the nine books, composed from 2000 to 2007. This summary offers a synopsis of each book, showing the metamorphosis of love present throughout the series. If you would like to go directly to the poetry, click here. Synopsis of  Songs of Love

1. Songs to the Beloved and Her Lovers – the first book is intimate, personal and sensual in nature and content. Love and union with an earthly beloved is a sacred, passionate and beautiful relationship as well as honoring the divine beloved from which love and lovers are fashioned. These poems are prose yet imbue rhythm and cadence which makes them easy to read silently or aloud. They are positive and express the wonders that permeate loving relationships on every level.

2. Songs to the Beloved in Gratitude and Praise – is similar to the first in form and style, with a few rhyme poems. It is more devotional and transcendental in nature accentuating the joy and gift of loving relationships. These poems offer a positive view of the world inspired by the personal responsibility of the lover to see and honor the beloved in every action and manifestation.

3. Sea of Compassion: Songs of Becoming – is a shorter book containing thirty-five poems, most of which rhyme. The poetry begins to reflect the transformational nature of love when directed at inharmonious situations in the world. They reflect the call for lovers to project loving thoughts, beckoning the beloved’s presence, which transcends and stills doubt, guilt, fear and negativity.

4. Gowns of Glory: Songs of Awakening – of all the books contains the strictest of rhyming patterns. They have a cadence and song like quality that draw the reader or listener into the landscape of love, lover and beloved. They call for the lover in everyone to awaken to the beloved within and without as well as in divine realms that permeates the earthly.

5. Nymph Sutra: Songs of Fire – establishes a different form which is similar to books six through eight in the series. Each poem contains nine lines, which appear as numbered verses in a longer poem, and stand alone without reference to each other, yet they have a continuity and progression from beginning to end. The mood of this poetry is playful and mischievous while exposing the unconsciousness that leads to suffering, conflict, greed and war. Their fire transforms the negative through the conscious activity of love. Lover and beloved are the warriors for positive change.

6. Elfin Chronicle: Songs of Enchantment – is a collection of eleven lined poems presented in the same form as book five. Their chant like quality offers a poetic expression that leaves the reader or lover with a sense of being a participant in the story of life and the ability to make a positive difference through the activity of love. Love, lover and beloved have the same mystical relationship with the gift of enchantment.

7. Earth Saga: Songs of Entonement – is a collection of thirteen lined poems sees the earth as the beloved. We, her lovers, bring balance, beauty, and joy, through deeds of love. The focus is on our individual consciousness and vibrations that fashion the nature of the environment around us. The human being and our divine nature are the authors of the saga of planet earth.

8. Mountain Oracle: Songs of Initiation – gives the spirit of the mountain, which is everywhere, a voice and recognizes her part in the awakening of love, lover and beloved in us. The spirit of the mountain is under siege with what is happening in the world, yet through our awakening we are united with the divine beloved, the ultimate initiation.

9. Encounters with the Beloved: Songs of Oneness – is the final book in the series and is similar in form to books five through eight; however the poems are various lengths. We are now aware of our oneness and see the beloved in every place, deed and activity. These encounters are often personal and intense, as the lover is exposed and vulnerable. Through surrender the lover merges with the beloved accentuating both the human and divine in all of us.
